The University of Miami Health System is initiating a search for an Associate Professor of Clinical Audiology and Director of Audiology Clinical Education (ACE).
Essential Clinical Job Functions:
- Direct, plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor goals and activities on behalf of the ACE program
- Leads all projects and duties as directed by the chief, related to the ACE
- ACE clinically administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, and speech reception and discrimination tests, to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment
- Performs immittance and emissions testing
- Conducts auditory evoked potential assessments for patients
- Assesses hearing sensitivity and quality and provides patients with information regarding the results
- Dispenses hearing aids and fits devices based on patient’s physiology and needs
- Consults with physicians and other professionals about patient’s future needs and current progress
- Participates in conferences, forums, and training sessions to remain up-to-date with or share knowledge of new hearing or speech disorder treatment methods
- Performs audiological evaluation, hearing aid coverage and electrophysiology to one or more area clinic locations
- Compiles test results and information to make appropriate recommendations and/or referrals
- Takes add-on audiological evaluations and hearing aid evaluation appointments as needed, from the ENT clinic
- Comfortable in running a clinic independently, and may occasionally see several pediatric patients
Essential Directorship Job Functions:
- Implementation of Visiting Professor training
- Facilitates programmatic development
- Maintains clinical education manual
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records on training
- Maintains up to date knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of Audiology
- Executes training curriculum set by the Chief
- Formalized meaningful Competencies/Metrics that can be measured over time, from one extern to the next
- Acts as a representative of the Department within and outside the institution, to stakeholders, academic institutions, educational organizations, training programs, and the public
- Tracking method of how someone is ready to be a preceptor; make it its own program (competencies, etc.)
Desired Qualifications:
- AuD or PhD in Audiology required
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical teaching experience required
- Primary specialties are Diagnostics and Hearing Aids
